The Story
I was in 11th grade when I met my boyfriend Derek. He had just moved to my hometown from Lancaster, to live with his grandparents while his parents were trying to figure out their divorce. At the time when he moved here, he didn't want to date anyone, but after meeting me, riding the same bus as me, living two houses away from me and going to the same vo-tech nursing class as me, we became very best friends and then eventually we fell in love. We started dating and became very close to each other. We spent most of our free time together and our evenings together at my house since he was only two houses away. He graduated that year and wanted to go out and look for a job over the summer, so while I was on vacation with my family at the beach, he went to New York to look for work. After coming home from the beach I sat by the phone waiting for him to call or to come see me, but he didn't call. One night the phone rang, it was him. He said that he had joined the Army and was stationed in New York, I became depressed knowing that I wouldn't see him as much as what I wanted to. As the summer went on, we started to drift apart but we stayed together and we continued to love each other. Summer ended and it was time to go back to school. It was my senior year, the last year of my high school days. He still called me and would come to visit me when he was on home visits, but not as much as what we used to see each other because he had to go to Lancaster to visit his mom too. My senior year was a hard year for me; Derek and I started to drift further and further apart with him being in New York and me being here in Pa. I will never forget the day he called me to tell me that he was being shipped out to Iraq, all I could do was cry, knowing it could be the last time I might talk to him considering all the violence over there. He made it to Iraq and back home safely, I was happy. A month later he was shipped out to Afganistan and once again all those fears came flooding back. We had been together now for 2 years and was slowing coming up on three. We had the chance to spend our one year anniversary together, but for the 2nd anniversary he was in Iraq. After he returned home we started to spend time together again and we fell back in love with each other all over again. Christmas 2004 I was once again spending the holiday alone, while he was in New York on base or so I thought. I will never forget July 2005..on the 4th of July my best friend passed away from cancer, I was devestated. I called Derek and asked him to come home and spend some time with me for moral support and grief. He said he couldn't leave base, so there I was all alone grieving the death of my best friend. July 6th..a day I wish never happened. He called me up and told me that he was breaking up with me because he had a one night stand with a girl who told him that she couldn't get pregnant, he fell for it because he was drunk. Well he did it with her and she was pregnant with his baby. I was pissed off and hurt. After being with him for 3 1/2 years, he went and cheated on me. Well needless to say after talking for a while, he told me that it wasn't the first time he cheated on me while we were together, he had cheated on me a tital of eight times with different girls, but she was the lucky one that got pregnant. What pissed me off even more was that they were moving from New York back to my hometown, 10 minutes from my house. They got married, had a son and the marriage ended soon after. The whole time he was married, he kept calling me and e-mailing me telling me how sorry he was, that he missed me and wanted to be with me. I was dumb enough to believe him, getting my hopes us that he would come back to me. Well I am happy to say that I am with someone else now and I am happy and pregnant. Derek...well he is still trying to figure out his life..moving from one place to another.
