The Story

This girl had been after me for about a year, and we had kind of been on and off during that time also. Finally, we started hanging out and stuff, and we both fell for each other, hard. We were "together" for 4 months, then I finally asked her to be my girlfriend and she accepted with no hesitation. We were so perfect, and everyone also thought the same. We dated for 7 months, and in those 7 months a lot happened between us. We lost something very special to each other, if you know what I mean.... About halfway through our relationship, her mom developed breast cancer and she (my ex) was devastated. I was there for her through think and thin though. When our 7 month anniversary approached, she started to act differently, she was sad a lot. So we went on a "break" which really wasn't because we still did the same stuff that we did when we weren't. Eventually, she broke up with me, and said that she just needed time for herself, to be happy again. She said she'll always love me and always have feelings for me. When she told me she wanted to just take a break 2 weeks earlier, she was bawling her eyes out and telling me everything will go back to normal between us, and that she never wanted to lose me. But back to the break up... I was devastated. She told me she still wanted to spend time with me and she still wanted to go to all my swim meets and such, and that it was very possible we could work something out in the future. Remember, she broke up with me because she said she needed time for herself, time to "just do her for a while", as she said. Three weeks later... she has a boyfriend. And this is the type of guy she never would have gone for before. He's the kind of guy that's super cool and nice around parents, teachers, and people he knows. But in reality, he's a jerk. Not to mention he's going absolutely nowhere with his life. A lot of people were shocked, and kind of angry that she did this. But me... I was and still am a mess. This happened more than 2 months ago, and I've had this constant feeling that's never gone away for a second since she broke up with me. I don't understand how she can throw away everything we had for another guy so quickly. I did nothing but give this girl my whole heart and this is what she gives back. It's hard for me to believe that she meant what she said when she said "I love you" to me. But at the same time, I do. I know she loved me with her whole heart because I could just tell by the way she would just stop and stare at me when we would cuddle on the couch or something. The look in her eyes gave it all away. Now, when I see her, it seems like she's a different person. She still will text me sometimes asking how a swim meet went, congratulating me and such. And sometimes, I see her take a quick glance at me from a distance, then look away quickly. I don't know what any of this means. I am just so confused... she told me she needed time for herself, that she'll always have feelings for me, then has another boyfriend 3 weeks later... I'll do anything to get her back. ANYTHING. I just need advice, I don't know what I did wrong. I was so good to her, and I know that this kid will be a jerk to her, but she'll stay with him because it's the classic "his best friend is dating one of my best friends" situation. I just need to know what people think of this... I feel like I did something wrong, even though I know I didn't. I'm completely crushed, and I just feel sick to my stomach whenever I see her, or even hear or see her name. Please help me, I don't know what to think or do. Like I said, I'll do whatever it takes to win her back. If you have experience with a situation like this, I'd greatly appreciate it. Or any advice on how I can get her back, or bring back those feelings she once had for me, that I think may still be there. She just has to find them again maybe? I just can't take this any longer :(
