The Story

I have to share this story. I'm twenty-six years old and had been in a relationship for over two years. The last 10 months were longdistance. We both are college students, he's doing his Phd at Duke and I'm trying to get into Med School. We both agreed if it got to be to much or if feelings developed for another person we would inform the other person. Honesty and not playing games were the foundation to our relationship. (Or so I thought). In Jan. we had gone home to visit my family and spend sometime together. We had a great time. Things were great. Two weekends after that, I get a message, telling me how wonderful I am and all that wonderfulness. We decided to celebrate V-day, the weekend afterward, he was coming here to visit me. He booked the airline ticket for a week together at my place. He asked me to choose restaurant and a place to go dancing. He wanted upscale. I know the area better. I book a romantic restaurant, VIP at this Jass club and a hotel near the area. My V-day present was the hotel with Champagne and the works. I booked hair and nails. Got a new little black dress and the like because he said get something knoew for yourself. It will be special. The two weekends before he was to arrive, he sent me cholocates from Godiva. He wasn't feeling well that weekend, so he didn't talk much at all. Wed the week before, we had a great conversation, he didn't want to get off the phone, but had a meeting. I spruced up my apartment with extra candles and picked up romantic movies that we like to watch together. I also sent him a small edible arrangement, because he loves chocolate covered strawberries. We try to do things like that for eachother. The tuesday before, he was to arrive, he called me at work to talk about additional plans to see if maybe on Friday, we could go to a restaurant he had heard about. Everything seemed great. Wed. at 11:30pm, my phone rings. I answer and its my guy. I am asleep I have work at 7:30am. He starts asking about my family and how was my day. Odd really, to call at 11:30 at night to ask those questions. I answer and ask him the same questions. He starts saying weird comments about a CNN article about love and relationships. An hour later its almost one am and I'm so confused. Finally, I ask what are you saying? "He says your are not enough for me." "I'm not coming this weekend." I say, so what do you mean, I am confused. He dances around, until, I finally get it, he doesn't want to be with me anynmore. I ask is there hope? He says no. Then proceeds to explain how I'm making this hard on him. I say what do you mean? He then says, "you are being so rational and not acting crazy! You are hurting me." I was about to cry like my heart was broken, but knew I needed to keep myself respect, so I calmly said, "I don't wish you any harm, I wish you success in the future, I wish you well and a piece of me will always care for you. I hope you find what and who you are looking for. Take care and good bye." He said, "don't hang up." He paused and said, "I need a minute." I started to cry and couldn't hide it anymore. He said, "At least I know, I'm not hurting alone." He then said good bye and hung up on me. It was 3am on Valentine's day. He also knew this is the second time I had been dumped on V-day. He said, "I know you were dumped on V-day before, but this is the way it is." I had to call to cancel the hotel, pick up the dress, cancel everything. I couldn't get the edible arrangement to cancel the order, so he go my present on V-day morning. He calls me at work and proceeds to say how it was alow blow, said I was a real a**hole. I had e-mailed him that morning at 8am about edible arrangements not being able to cancel my order. It was just too late. I was so embarrassed, and all day on V-day everyone at work got presents, flowers and had trinkets from their loved one. Later, he told a friend of ours, that it was my fault. So, that's my story. Two years of my life down the toilet and my heart undert his heel. On the brightside, my friends have really been the best and I'm lucky to have them. My whole family was shocked, in fact he had asked my sister to makesure to send him a wedding invite less than a month ago! Looking back, he was selfish and had been cruel on occasion. He likes woman to have curves-, a lot of them. While I'm not skinny, I've never been as big as he likes. I have been loosing weight lately due to a new work out routine and have been feeling really good about myself. He continued to make references to my weight and how I was getting to skinny. Whenever we went to dinner, he would try to force me to eat more and would make jokes about me. When I was visiting my parents at the hotel, I had just gotten out of the shower, he looked at me and said you used have all that flesh and were sexy. He put me down a lot, about not being fat enough and used to want me to gain weight. I had to be true to myself, I don't want to die young or get sick. He also wanted me to call him at specific times. The one time I was busy and had to call him back later, he flipped out and said I was careless. Sometimes four days would go by with no contact from him. Two times a whole weekend went by with no contact. We had an arrangment, weekends we talked. Week days are hard for both of us. I work full time and go to school, plus volunteer, and am trying to get into med school. He's working a Phd, not easy. According to him, it was my fault.
