The Arcade Fire
Tell me if this sounds familiar: you start dating someone, you like them, they like you, you show them the music you like, they show you the music you like, you break up and then can no longer bring yourself to listen to the music that you liked and listened to while you were dating said person. Now when any song that you listened to with your sweetheart comes up on your Ipod, computer, radio, etc. you’re hurrying to skip to the next track or change stations all together.
This exact situation has happened to me at least 4 or 5 times, and I hate it. There’s are few things worse than spending loads of time and effort finding a good collection of music that you enjoy, and then having it wiped out by a single event…a breakup. It’s not that your CDs or Ipod or computer or radio has been stolen, it’s just that the music no longer brings you the joy it once did.
This very thing happened with this band. I started listening to The Arcade Fire right before I started dating Alicia and shared some of the music with her. She fell in love with this song because it reminded her of her ex-boyfriend. Ironically, the song now reminds me of how she became my ex-girlfriend when she left me to get back together with him.
